Davido vs Wizkid – Which Do You Think Will Have A Bigger 2017? (A Must Read)

Wizkid vs Davido can essentially be called the Lionel Messi vs ‎Cristiano Ronaldo battle of the Nigerian music industry.

Much like the footballing duo; they both shot to limelight at a young age, they both have had stellar careers and both are among the creme de la creme of the African Music scene.
From their beef to their friendship, these two have always been pitched against each other and even though we sense you might be tired of another comparison article, we’d still go ahead to see how both their 2016 went.
Lets highlight their 2016 together..
THEIR AWARDS IN 2016
Wizkid won the Artiste of 2016 at 4 Major Nigerian/African Awards last year MAMA, Headies, AFRIMA and Sound City MVP. At MAMA alone, he won 4 categories and took his total tally to double figures for the year 2016. Same couldn’t be said for Davido who had a really silent year on the awards front in 2016.
THEIR RECORD LABELS STAR BOY vs DMW IN 2016
Both stars also flexed their muscles as record label head honchos as they both signed new acts after experiencing different levels of successes with their previous signings.
Wizkid on his own part signed Efya and Mr Eazi with R2Bees completing the heavily Ghanian influence trio. The deal for Mr Eazi was rumored to have fallen through while the jury is still out on Starboy’s impact on Efya and R2Bees.
Its safe to say Wizkid’s Label is struggling to survive.
Davido‘s DMW artistes Dremo and Mayorkun however have hit the ground running really fast and have gone from relatively unknown commodities to fan favourites in just a short period of a year. Impressive! What makes the story even more remarkable is the fact that both artistes were relatively unknown before they signed on to DMW.
THEIR MUSIC IN 2016
2016 was a bit quiet for both artistes with Davido not releasing his first single for the year till the last quarter alongside a 5 Track EP which was a bit underwhelming for his own high standards.
Wizkid also had minimal effort, but what he lacked in quantity, he made up for in quality. His collaboration with Drake on “One Dance” was arguably the song of 2016 and how it missed out on a Grammy nomination baffled many as it topped the world Billboard Charts for 11 weeks the only single the have achieved that feat in the charts’ history. Wizkid smashed their records.
Both Artistes have started 2017 with a bang with Wizkid releasing the Reggaeton inspired “Daddy Yo” tune and Davido‘s releasing “If” which has many people saying he has returned to his roots and we’ve not even ended February yet.
2017 will be lit of both artistes if they continue with this trend.
The million dollar question however is, whom among “Davido & Wizkid Do You Think Will Have A Bigger 2017?
